The Main Idea of Luther's teachings
The main ideas of Luther's teachings was that the Bible was the only authority religiously and that being relieved of your sins is free. He said that christ has already died for your sins so there is no need for any more payment such as giving money to the church. Luther said that it was not necessary. Although very generous it was not nessesary to get into heaven.
The Story of Luther vowing to become a Monk.
Martin Luther decided to become a monk when he was caught in a tragic and scary thunderstorm. He prayed to God and said that if he spared his life and protected him from the storm that he would become a monk. And God did as Luther prayed for and spared him. As a result of this Luther became a monk.
How and why Luther was Excommunicated and who was Involved?
On October 10, 1520 Martin Luther received a note from the pope saying that he would be excommunicated if he didn't stop believing his beliefs within 60 days. This would be a huge deal because for the Roman Catholic Church salvation is only obtained through the church. So therefore excommunication would give you eternal damnation. Martin Luther was excommunicated by the pope on January 3, 1521 after he set a publicly viewed bonfire and threw the note into it.
